All Girls League

The All Girls 2019 Kick-Off Season

Our 2019 season was a great success with GLL players joining Ottawa West Little League players to form GLOW. The Sunday afternoon All Girls teams were made up of registrants in Rookies and Minors age groups from GLL, Ottawa West, Kanata and South Ottawa little leagues.

Home games were at Canterbury diamonds (2185 Arch Street).
Coach pitch format was used, with a batting tee option for new players. Each session started with skill development training, followed by a game.
Players who registered for the GLL regular co-ed rookie/minor league were able to play in the all girls league at no extra cost.
They girls met local Women’s Team Canada and Team Ontario players who were involved with this league, and led clinics to begin the season.

2021 All-Girls League

UPDATE (April 14, 2021)

GLL is unable to form teams in any of our All Girls divisions this year.  The good news is that South Ottawa Little League has spots for GLL players who want to play in ALL Girls.
What this means:
  1. If you decide to go ahead with the All Girls program, you’ll need to register your player with SOLL
  2. Due to current public health restrictions, players can not be in more than one bubble.  This means that players will have to choose to be either in the co-ed program (remain in GLL co-ed) or the All Girls program (register in SOLL All Girls program)
  3. As GLL can not transfer fees to another league, if you have already registered and paid for a Spring 2021 GLL program, but choose to instead register for the SOLL All Girls program, GLL will refund your full Spring 2021 registration fee.

Rookie, Minor, Major Divisions

GLL supplied several players to an Ottawa West team in 2019 and their experience in the all girls league was a roaring success. Fun with friends (old and new) is a key, but girls want to develop their skills as well.  The 2021 All Girls baseball season is under works, but here are the current 2021 program details:

  • Rookie – 7,8 yrs old
  • Minor –  9,10 yrs old
  • Major – 11-13 yrs old

Please note that age determination is based on a cut off date of August 31 as prescribed by the international Little League organization. To verify your child’s league age, check the age determination chart.

Tentative Schedule:

    • Early May – Kick-off clinic for all players
    • Sundays May  to June  –  Games   1:00pm or 3:00 pm  (excludes Sun May long weekend)
    • Final Saturday in June  – end of season tourney

Girls do not have to register for a co-ed team in order to be part of an All Girls team.  However, due to current public health restrictions, players can not be in more than one bubble.  This means that players will have to choose to be in either the co-ed program or the All Girls program.  If your player chooses to be in the All Girls and has already paid and registered with GLL for the 2021 Spring season, GLL will refund the full amount of your registration.

Girls do need to register in their appropriate Division.  Girls electing to play All Girls baseball will be rostered on to All-Girls teams, likely amalgamated with South Ottawa or Ottawa West.

All skill levels are welcome – there will be girls new to baseball at all levels.  We expect to have teams in South Ottawa, Ottawa West and Kanata again this year, and are hopeful that other leagues contribute players.

In rookie, coaches will pitch to the players – players will also have the option to hit off a tee. Each player receives 5 pitches or 3 swinging strikes from the coach pitcher, whichever comes first. This format will ensure that all players hit the ball.   At minor and major, we use a modified format which provides flexibility between a player pitch format and either machine pitch or coach pitch.

All GLL players will receive a baseball cap, a team jersey,  photo and a participation award.  Players must wear long pants, not shorts and a jill (female version of a jock). Baseball pants are preferred – track pants or loose fitting pants are acceptable (not jeans).  Sturdy running shoes are to be worn – rubber cleats work well.

Friend requests are accepted based on each league’s friend request policy – one request per player on a reciprocal basis. Please read the South Ottawa policy if you plan to make a request.

As always, our ability to form teams depends on registration numbers and availability of coaches.  Stay tuned for emailed updates.
